Facebook: facebook.com Twitter: twitter.com Welcome to Part 3 of my How to Ride a Motorcycle series. For Parts 1 & 2, click the links below: Part 1 - The Basics - www.youtube.com Part 2 - Turning - www.youtube.com In this video, I'll teach you the basics of shifting gears, including the locations of all the shifting components and how to use them properly. Whether you're just curious, about to learn, or learning to ride, this guide should help you out. For some quick basics, all shifting occurs on the left side of the bike. Your left hand controls the clutch and your left foot controls the gear lever. To shift a gear, you pull in the clutch lever and press down or lift up on the gear lever with your foot. If you continuously press the gear lever down until it won't go down anymore, you will be in 1st gear. From there, lifting up on the gear lever step by step will put you in N-2-3-4-5 or however many gears your bike has. You'll notice that neutral is in between first and second gear, with each being a half step away. This makes it easy to drop down all the way to first gear without having to readjust and shift up. Rolling off the throttle during a shift and gradually rolling back on while you let the clutch out will help you make smooth shifts. Be sure to watch the video for a great lesson on how to learn these techniques. Leave any questions or comments below, and be sure to Subscribe!
